Nowadays,
technology is an important part of our society. It intends to reach every
aspect of the human daily life and the field of education is experiencing these
changes in a very useful way.
The development of multimedia
technology for learning offers new ways in which learning can take place in
schools and homes. Conveying information through texts, graphics, videos,
animations and sounds, it’s a teaching method that represents an opportunity to
improve students’ learning.
With the traditional books,
students can explore an almost infinitive variety of information, these can
lead to new discoveries, but the story ends there, without a chance to use and
demonstrate what they have learned. This does not happen if a multimedia method
is used properly. It allows students to select the right tools to apply them to
the learning task, considering their audience, the amount of information and
the manner of linking it for others to retrieve.
In order to meet individual
learning needs from students, teachers have to focus more on being facilitators, and taking the multimedia projects as a support to help them to acquire new
knowledge and to develop their skills. Giving an example, Sound as one of the
five elements of multimedia. It allows students to utilize the power of the
imagination, recreating the story in their own minds.
Even though, these technological
advancements are not used often for the right reasons. They are usually used
out of convenience as a method of entertaining students. That is why we should
encourage ourselves, as future teachers, to use them in a more efficient way,
so, students will be able to handle knowledge in this technological era.

I quite disagree with this post. I think that althought multimedia components can help to students also has a bad part: many students can be distracted with the utilities of the web site instead of the content that teachers are giving to them. It is kind of easy to waste time on the web. In addiction a trully believe that we can totally use and demontrate kwoledge adquired through books. Internet is not an old resource and before internet people had to read books and use the knowledge trhough them, so for me books still remain as important as multimedia.
ResponderEliminarWell, that's your point of view. Of course, this system is not perfect, it depends on the way is used. I was not inferring that books are not important anymore, but I did say that they do not have implicit a way to express what readers have learned from it.
ResponderEliminarYes, books are still important in education, but now that we have reached a new era, technology is taking an important part in education, and I totally get the point of this post, using multimedia tools to teach children and (also adults, why not).
EliminarI was thinking the whole time about when I was in an english institute, they used a cd that had the Lion King story in it, but it was an interactive cd, so you could click on the drawings, and it was also telling the story as you flipped through the pages. While kids heard the story, they were watching it in the computer, and they were also learning new words and how to pronounce them correctly.
In this way, they used technology and storytelling as a tool, in a fun way, without the kids being distracted by other things in the computer, because they were also being watched by the teacher!!
remember when we were in school and we used books? I used to spend a lot of time in the library and I learned a lot, now I just read something and forget it afterwards. Computers do that to you but information can be found faster of course.
ResponderEliminarIt is true that technology is an important part of our society, and it is true too that improves students’ learning, but we need also to keep in mind that nowadays not everything about internet is great, it is true that we have a lot of data in which to look for, but we have get accustomed to the ease of copy and paste, that is a problem that everybody has, specially students, in this sense to make students analyzed about any topic has been a challenged in which teachers have to work in order to ended up with this. However, we cannot deny that internet help us in a lot of ways.
